Artist Statement
In my paintings, I explore the relationship between flesh, soil, water and time. My experience being alone in nature heavily informs my work - the feeling of being vulnerable to the elements, and simultaneously independent.
Recently, my practice has been increasingly informed by a desire to use materials that are sustainable and foraged. I've begun using natural paints made pigments from rocks, roots and flowers, as well as synthetic paints. The juxtaposition between the vivid artificial and soothing natural world represents inevitably failed attempts to become one with nature. I’m shamefully reliant on the bright acrylic paints I’ve used for years, but trying to shift towards more environmentally safe, foraged materials. |
If you are interested in a painting, I am currently looking to give some works for trade or donation.
